Coal serves as a critical mid-to-late game resource in Palworld, acting as a mandatory ingredient for crafting Refined Ingots at an Improved Furnace. As players advance past level 30, the need for coal grows rapidly to support high-tier gear, weapons, and base upgrades. Understanding the primary locations and collection methods ensures you maintain a steady supply without unnecessary bottlenecks.

Top Mining Locations across the Map

Natural coal nodes appear as large, dark boulders scattered throughout specific biomes in the game world. One popular early option is the Twilight Dunes region near the center of the map, where small clusters of nodes spawn close to fast travel points. For larger quantities, the Desiccated Desert and the rocky peaks near the Sealed Realm of the Guardian feature dense node clusters ideal for heavy harvesting runs.

Farming Coal Using Base Structures

Relying solely on manual mining trips can become tedious as your resource demands scale up. Once players unlock higher Technology levels, constructing a specialized Coal Mine or Coal Quarry directly at base allows for passive, automated farming. These base structures produce coal continuously when staffed by workforce Pals, eliminating the need to constantly travel back and forth to wild desert biomes.

Assigning the Best Mining Pals

To mine wild coal nodes efficiently, players must deploy Pals with a Mining work suitability level of 3 or higher, such as Digtoise or Astegon. Lower suitability Pals will ignore raw coal deposits due to the high durability of the rocks. However, built base structures like the Coal Mine require only level 1 mining suitability, making it far easier to assign early-game Pals to passive production duties.

Defeating Pals for Extra Resource Drops

In addition to physical mining, players can obtain small amounts of coal by fighting or capturing specific wild Pals. Powerful fire-type creatures like Blazamut frequently drop coal upon defeat in high-level zones. While defeating these Alpha bosses provides immediate drops, it is best used as a secondary method alongside node farming or automated base production.
